HYDRANGEA HOME

Project Details

Academic Project

This project was nominated for sharing at the 2021 OAAAS Student Awards for Excellence in Architectural Technology.

Utilized Autodesk Revit to design and develop this project

The Hydrangea Home is designed to cope with some of the dramatic changes in our world today, such as COVID-19 and climate change, in a beautiful new stylistic design. Hydrangea Home design: Some sections of the home aim to function simultaneously for both isolation and connection to make it easier to accommodate nowadays and possible future pandemics.

The second main factor affecting future house designs is climate change; the Hydrangea house considers trying to offset those changes by providing high insulation and sustainable energy resources. It accommodates current changes while considering potential future needs in isolation, socialization, business, and climate change.

Theme

Hydrangea is a big plant with rounded or flattened flowering heads of small florets; those soft florets combine to form a beautiful globe of big flowers spread on a solid wood stem. This shape represents the Hydrangea house concept with separate masses connected to create a beautiful home.

Design Approach

The house's design features organized clusters. Those clusters rely on physical proximity to relate the spaces to one another. It consists of repetition, cellular areas dissimilar in size, form, and function but related to one another by proximity or an ordering device such as symmetry or axis.

Other aspects of the design approach are:

  • Organic Architecture philosophy:  architecture works with nature and almost becomes part of natural harmony with humanity and its environment.
  • natural colour schemes that match the surrounding nature
  • The house's design features organized clusters to save energy by not conditioning spaces when they are not occupied.
  • Bring the glory of the natural surroundings into daily life, represented by enclosed green roofs and green walls.
  • Sustainable GFRC and ICF wall structures and green roofs
  • Reducing Undesirable Heat Flow Summer and Winter with Super Insulation Solar Thermal Buffer Zone
  • Floral blue Solar Panels(inspired by smart flower): uses advanced robotics and automation to track the sun on specifically designed steel tracks intelligently. In addition, every day at sunset, Smart Flower will automatically fold up and clean itself to maintain peak solar utilization.
  • Double Northern walls, filled with earth to provide insulation and act as a planting pot.
  • Fully glazed southern facade with a shading system
  • Minimal windows on the Northern facade
  • The offices provide separation and connection safely through the connecting glazed tube with a small opening and rounded movable table provided with sanitizing UV light to exchange papers and materials safely.
  • UV Sanitizing Elevator with Fridge in it for sanitizing and elevating shopping stuff (Double doors, one from the Foyer side, another from the Interior)
